Above you are seeing the SMART Board cover and the projector that is mounted in the primary wing. Even though this is mounted outside the primary classrooms, it is easily accessible to all grade levels. |
Last year, we came up with an idea to mount our interactive SMART Board in the multi-purpose area of our primary wing which also houses the Literacy Collaborative Book Room. Teachers are constantly using the equipment which includes an Intel computer microscope and a wireless keyboard. This area has been used to incorporate technology into so many areas. The following are just a few ways this technology has been used since the first day of operation:
Viewing tadpoles (from egg to frog) under the computer microscope
Taking group Reading Counts quizzes
Introducing programs such as Publisher and Kidspiration whole-group
Researching various topics on the Internet
Playing Jeopardy trivia games in various content areas (created by our teachers)
Our new Literacy and Technology Center demonstrates that by making technology available and easily accessible, teachers will incorporate more and more technology into any and all curricular areas.

Here an Athens kindergarten student has just read a Reading Counts question to his classmates and he's surveying them for the answer. In the lower right hand corner you can see the sturdy SMART Board cover. This cover was installed so the SMART Board does not get damaged when it is not being used. This cover has a white board surface which teachers and students use to write a morning message to the Athens students. |
